Dr Michael Facek attended the University of Sydney medical school and undertook further orthopaedic training in Sydney and several regions of northern NSW. He went on secondment to The Shriner’s Hospital, Portland, Oregon, USA. He undertook sub-specialty training in sports and arthroplasty knee surgery at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic (NSOSMC) at the Mater Hospital, Sydney. He has a special interest in water sports and surfing injuries

He is a member of the:

Arthroplasty Society of Australia (ASA)

International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS)

Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA)

He has appointments at John Flynn Private Hospital and The Tweed Valley Hospital, and has been director of training at the Tweed Valley Hospital for the last four years. Current research interests include posterior osteophytes and balancing in robotic TKR surgery, and use of non-irradiated allograft in knee ligament reconstruction surgery.

He is an orthopaedic knee consultant to Surfing Australia (including the High Performance Centre in Casuarina) and Skate Australia.
